Luke's New Hat

Married for many years, adult children out of the house, it is now just the two of us.  Luke is a very patient man, he frequently says ok in a skeptical way to my crazy ideas.  This was no exception.  At our local craft supply type store, I grabbed 2 skeins of yarn, announcing that I was going to attempt Illusion/Shadow knitting.  I would attempt a published pattern first to figure it out, then I was going to make a VA Tech hat.  "Ok" was the response as he paid.

That afternoon I sat down with my supplies and the book I had bought and began to knit.  This could not be but so hard, I had knitted for years, I quickly discovered I did not like this publisher's pattern format, graphs like with cross stitch, YUK!  However I had figured out the gist of what was happening, so I determined my gauge, ripped out what I had done.  I did my design on graph paper, and then converted into text.  Managed to accomplish the entire thing in about 10 hours.

Not too exciting from this view.

However, when viewed from the correct angle.....

Luke's response "Wow, that is cool, can I have it?"  He then took it to work the next day, posted pictures on Facebook, and now wants me to do one with the Radio Station Logo, he is an on-air DJ as his primary source of income.

Pattern now for any interested:

Finish:

Cut the tail to approx. 1 foot.  Pick up loops off needle onto thread, pull tight.  Do not cut tail, sew seam, careful to match rows.  I use mattress stitch, keeps the seam from being bulky and the stitches are hidden.
